HANCOCK HAS SUPER OPENING IN U.K., GERMANY

Will Smith has demonstrated that his superpowers to vanquish carping critics extends to the U.K. and Germany, where his Hancock opened in first place in both countries over the weekend. Although, as in America, the movie was met with largely negative reviews in the British press, it nevertheless took in $18.9 million in the U.K. on 450 screens, beating out the opening of Kung Fu Panda, which opened in second place with $12 million. In Germany,the film raked in $12.8 million on 723 screens, making it the biggest opening for any film in that country so far this year. Kung Fu Panda opened in second place with $4.5 million.

the
box
office
these
days,
the
Will
Smith
starrer
Hancock
collected
an
estimated
$66
million
over
the
three-day
weekend
despite
an
avalanche
of
negative
reviews.
In
an

with
Bloomberg
News,
Paul
Dergarabedian,
president
of
Media

Numbers,
said,
"The
Sony
marketing
machine
and
Will
Smith's
recognition
transcend
any
