Tonight's (Wednesday) season finale of American Idol is likely to produce the year's top ratings for a regular series, when viewers learn the results of the David vs. David showdown on Tuesday night. If the show's judges had the final say, the winner would be 17-year-old David Archuleta. Simon Cowell proclaimed, "What we have witnessed is a knockout." Randy Jackson called Archuleta "the best singer of season seven." His rival, David Cook, appeared to acknowledge that he would take the runner-up spot when the public's vote is counted. "Archie is an amazing, amazing kid and an amazing, amazing performer and I knew I had to come out with my A-game. I feel like I had fun," the Associated Press quoted him as saying. But Courtney Hazlett, who writes MSNBC.com's "The Scoop" gossip column said that producers of the show are actually rooting for Cook because they are concerned about having to deal with Archuleta's father, Jeff. "His father is another shade of Joe Simpson, and it can only spell disaster," a source told the column.
